Overcoming Evil/Monster - A good example of this would be the game Destiny. You play as a soldier working for The Light in the future where you need to travel between Earth, Venus, Mars and the Moon to complete missions and to clear out the darkness otherwise known as The Hive, The Vex, The Fallen and The Cabal.
Rags to Riches - A very popular response from our session when we discussed this type of story in our lecture is Fable 2, because it is also a very good example for this type of story *spoilers incoming*. At the start of Fable 2 you and your older sister are living on the streets and the first few missions require you to try and earn a very little amount money doing multiple missions so you can afford to buy this apparently magical toy which can give you a wish from a travelling salesman. In the beginning you are poor and then after this part you can now 'free roam' and do many things to get money like selling weapons, taking up a job and being a landlord to the point of being able to buy the big castle you always lived near on the streets.
The Quest - This game came up quite a lot in our lecture but I never heard anyone say it for this specific category, and that game was Pokemon. In every Pokemon game you get a mission from a professor in which you choose your starting Pokemon, and as you progress through the game you help multiple people by doing multiple quests a long the lines of saving a city all the way to ending up saving the world right at the end of any Pokemon storyline.
The Voyage and Return - An example of this would be the game The Last Of Us *spoilers incoming*. The main character Joel has to escort the other main character Ellie across a zombie infested America since Ellie could be a cure for the zombie virus as she is immune. At the end when he finally takes her to the location he ends up fighting his way to get her back since the operation they were going to do for the research of the cure would kill her and he ends up taking her back to his brothers town for the both of them to live in.
Comedy/Jester - A good example for this type of story would be any Lego game all the way from Lego Batman and Lego Star Wars all the way to Lego Indiana Jones. They take well known franchises and 'Lego-fy' them into a more comedic and humorous approach for kids (or for any audience that enjoys these games) and they usually do this by adding some silly and slapstick type of comedy to the storyline and in cut scenes.
Tragedy - For tragedy I went with the game Red Dead Redemption *spoilers incoming*. There isn't a long explanation as to why I chose this game like the other story types, its just for the simple reason that the main character you play as in the game from start to finish, the one the player feels attached to since they've spent all this time playing him dies at the end.
Rebirth - At first rebirth was a hard one to figure out, but I eventually decided that all MOBA's (Massive Online Battle Arena's) like League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm or DOTA 2 would be under this story type since once you die you respawn back again, and usually you come back stronger since you have the opportunity to buy items which can improve your damage or tanky-ness.
