3D Modelling - Damaged Pillar Issues

Like I mentioned in my last post, I didn't have any screenshots of me making the base mesh, this is because I didn't name the file properly ('Damaged_Pillar_Base_Mesh' for example) and saved over it with this file that I was working on creating the low poly, if I didn't have any issues come up then this wouldn't have been a problem, however, I encountered multiple issues and didn't have a base mesh to go back to because I unintentionally saved over it with this file.
Firstly, for some reason, this file and this file only was extremely slow taking anywhere between 20 seconds to a minute to load (I did time it) whenever I did a function like 'fill hole', 'bridge', or 'target weld' even after I deleted my history and couldn't figure out why it was taking this long to load on my personal computer and the university computers. This was the first problem.
Secondly, in ZBrush I unknowingly deformed the roof so much from the original mesh that it became really thin and the top of the roof got pulled below the bottom of the roof essentially meaning that it had to be redone which I didn't have the time for unfortunately. This is where I could have reverted back to my base mesh and used the roof from there but like I said I accidentally saved over it. This has taught me to name files appropriately, and make multiples saves for me to go back to so this doesn't happen again.
Lastly with all these problems combined, it meant that I couldn't continue with the design no where near close to a normal speed for me to complete it because of how slow the file was (still for some unknown reason) and the fact that I had no base mesh to go back to for me to restart my pillar or just revert back to an earlier stage of the creation process meant that I had no where to go back to.
From here I started a new design because now I know the process and whats involved, I will be more aware of what issues might come up and more cautious with my modelling so I can prevent problems like these meaning that it would be faster for me to start a new design from scratch instead of carrying on with my previous one.
