Indie Development - What Mechanics I'm Including

In my game I plan to include these mechanics:

- Jumping, avoiding obstacles and knowing when to leave a platform because it is unsafe and also knowing when to stay because that platform leads you to another so you can continue your journey.

- Obstacles, some that take a life and some that reduce your movement speed, being slowed in a runner game can put you out of rhythm with jumping leading to more mistakes, mastering this is essential to get a good score and to continue running  through the game. This gives the player situations they NEED to react to otherwise they get punished.

- Lives and Bonus Points, putting extra lives and power ups that give you bonus movement speed and bonus points will help the player rack up their score. I plan to put these in hazardous areas giving the player the reward of getting these powers but also the risk of losing lives through obstacles making the player decide which path they want to take and how they want to approach it promoting forward and critical thinking.

These are the 3 main mechanics I am going to be focusing on my game and if I have the time, may even include more. Examples of more are included below:

- More Obstacles, adding a wider variety of obstacles that need to be avoided will make the game harder and give more variety instead of having the same obstacle just more frequently.

- Falling/Moving platforms, including these will be a catalyst in making the player think about when and where to jump especially with the falling platforms, if you fall you die/lose lives so you need to jump off in time to land on other platforms before the platform has fallen.

- Enemies, AI that shoots or tries to throw objects at you whilst you're running will be one of the hardest challenges to face and probably wouldn't be something I'd include until later levels of the game which I won't have time to make since this is only a prototype.
