Intro: My game, Bamboo Rush, is a side view endless runner game where you play as a panda running through a forest of bamboo. The aim of the game is to achieve the highest score possible whilst avoiding obstacles that you face along the way to maintain your score and the game ends once you run out of lives. Until that point you continue to play the game on an endless loop that gets progressively harder as time goes on.
Characters: The only character at the moment is the character you play as, the panda. I do plan to include multiple pandas that differ visually so players can feel more attached to a panda they like rather than one they are stuck with. This will be selected at the start of the game essentially like a character select type of menu. If I have time I may include an in game points system where you can buy cosmetics for your character.
Story: The story of this game is you're a hungry panda looking to get as much bamboo as possible for a feast
Obstacles: The obstacles you have to face in this game are Bear Traps, Dead Leaves, Pitfalls and Trip Wires. Bear traps stop your movement speed for one second and make the player lose one life, once you are released it slows down your current movement speed permanently (your speed can still increase by collecting bamboo). If you run into any dead leaves you lose a small amount of points but don't lose any lives. Pitfalls are holes in the ground with spikey bamboo sticking out, falling into this will make the player lose one life but they will bounce straight up after colliding with the bamboo instead of falling. Trip wires I plan to be a 50/50 risk, crossing through a trip wire will summon an obstacle or power up slightly ahead of you but you don't know which its going to be making it a gamble.
Powerups: The power ups available in game are Bamboo, Green leaves, Lives and Green Tea. Bamboo is an item that as you collect it, it gradually increases your speed permanently (unless you collide with an obstacle in which case you lose some movement speed). Green leaves give the player some bonus points to their score, essentially the opposite of the Dead leaves. A player can hold a maximum of 3 lives and you can pick them up in game to replenish them, picking up a life when you are already holding the max number of 3 you will instead be rewarded with bonus points. Lastly green tea gives the player immunity to obstacles for a short period of time whilst temporarily increasing movement speed (this doesn't protect the player from missing a platform and falling down a hole).
Art Style: I aim for my game to have a 2.5D cartoon style, the main character and obstacles are going to be 2D sprites but the platforms are going to be 3D because I feel this gives the game more depth visually. Also this involves some inference, since any object that you can interact with in a negative or positive way (Obstacles and Powerups) will be 2D sprites, and everything else will be 3D.
Controls: There is only one button you need to play this game and that is the space bar, you're only in control of when to jump to land on platforms and to avoid obstacles. In a way you are in control of your speed to some degree since as you play you collect bamboo to run faster and you don't HAVE to collect every bit of bamboo you see if you feel you are going to fast. Button wise though, you only use the spacebar
Age Range: A lot of runner games like Subway Surfer and endless amounts other runner games you may find on the app store apply and are playable for all ages, however, the main demographic tends to be aimed at kids and young teens which is why I'm going for a cartoony style to reflect this.
